Use of “Either…Or”
In English, “either…or” is used to present two positive choices or possibilities. It is commonly used in Urdu where the phrase “یا ۔۔۔۔ یا” appears. It shows that one of the two options will happen, be chosen, or is true.
Important Rule:
- When “either…or” connects two singular subjects, the verb is singular.
- When connecting two plural subjects, the verb is plural.
Example of “Either…Or”
- Either you or your brother is responsible.
(یا تو تم یا تمہارا بھائی ذمہ دار ہے۔) - Either she will come today or tomorrow.
(یا وہ آج آئے گی یا کل۔) - You can either call me or send an email.
(تم یا تو مجھے کال کر سکتے ہو یا ای میل بھیج سکتے ہو۔) - Either the teacher or the students are mistaken.
(یا تو استاد غلطی پر ہیں یا طلبہ۔) - He wants to either buy a car or a bike.
